KDP Cozy Crime Publisher Review: $17, and What It Does Not Do

KDP Cozy Crime Publisher is a $17 browser tool that sits between your AI and Amazon KDP. It writes the prompt, cleans the AI’s reply, joins the parts back into one manuscript, and does the print arithmetic. It does not write the book — you paste the prompt into your own AI account — and it fixes formatting, not storytelling. For publishers who already use AI and keep failing KDP’s print rules, that is the boring half of the job solved.

I tested it end to end and recorded the walkthrough. Here is what it actually does, what it costs, and where it stops.

What it actually is

A single HTML file that runs in your browser, offline. No install, no account, no server. The tool makes no network calls at all, so your project file never leaves your machine. Projects save in the browser, so you can close the tab and come back to them.

It sits in the gap between your AI and Amazon KDP: it writes the prompt, cleans the reply, joins the pieces, calculates the margins, and tells you exactly what to print.

The seven recipes

Seven prompt recipes ship with it:

  • Whole book in one prompt — writes the entire book
  • Project setup and story bible
  • Chapter draft
  • Scene expansion
  • Seam stitch
  • Story bible update
  • Junk scrub and repair

Recipe one writes the whole book. The other six exist to go deeper, or to fix one chapter without rewriting the rest.

How a run works

Four steps:

  1. Pick a lane — cozy mystery, mystery and crime, or western
  2. Fill in six boxes, or leave them blank and let the AI invent consistently
  3. Choose your AI tool from a dropdown — the prompt retunes itself to how much that tool writes in one reply
  4. Copy the finished prompt, paste it into your AI, paste the reply back into the dashboard

The three things that do the work

The reply cleaner strips the chat, the notes, the apologies, the code fences and the summary, then tells you what it removed. The part joiner stitches every continue-reply back in order, so a book written across four replies arrives as one manuscript. The margin calculator does the print arithmetic: trim size, inside margin by page count, outside, top and bottom, the 24-page minimum, and the exact numbers to enter at upload.

Pricing and the OTO stack

KDP Cozy Crime Publisher sells six editions of the same tool. The video review only mentions the $27 Series edition, but the launch page publishes the full ladder up to a $147 complete pack.

LevelPriceWhat it is
Draft (FE)$17The engine. Writes the whole book in one prompt, strips the chat, joins the parts, calculates margins.
Series$27The memory. Series Bible, reader promise, repeating case formula, recurring cast.
Manuscript$47The editor. Book plan, act structure, length allocation, chapter tracker, line edits.
Press$67The shelf. Metadata for search, blurb, author bio, seven keyword slots.
Catalog$97The back office. Catalogue plan, three next titles, release order.
Complete Publisher Pack$147All five editions in one payment. The page says it saves $108.

Total cost: $255 if you buy each edition separately ($17 + $27 + $47 + $67 + $97), or $147 for the complete pack. Buying the pack instead of the parts saves $108.

What it does not do

Worth being straight about the limits, because the sales page is not:

  • It does not write the book. You paste the prompt into your own AI account.
  • Free AI tiers have reply limits. The 5,500-word short novel is the proven size — it fits in one reply on every major tool. A 6,500-word novel needs the chapter recipes and a lot of continue nudges.
  • It fixes formatting, not storytelling. If the prose is weak, correct margins will not save it.
  • It outputs an HTML file and a PDF workflow, not a Word manuscript. If you edit in Word you convert first.
  • Three genre lanes only. Romance or thriller sit outside the tuning, though the recipes will still run.

Who it is for

KDP publishers who already use AI and keep losing the last mile — the formatting, the margins, the chat artefacts in the manuscript. Anyone who wants a paperback interior rather than a chat log. It is not for someone who wants the novel written for them.

Verdict

For $17 you get the boring half of self-publishing solved: clean text, joined parts, correct margins, and a print-ready interior. A realistic first run — pick the short novel, run recipe one, paste the reply back, let the cleaner strip the chat, check the page count, print to PDF, upload — is an evening of work, not a week.

If you want someone to write the novel, this is not that. If you already have an AI and keep bouncing off KDP’s print rules, it is the cheapest fix I have tested.
